Cross-country trails around and along the Valley

Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned cross-country skier, practically nowhere else can offer the same range and quality of trails as can be found in the Upper Puster Valley: the network around Toblach extends for some 200 kilometres, making the village a true centre of cross-country skiing culture.
Her eyes sparkling, Frida Oberhammer from the Apartments Eden lists her favourite trails. To get properly warmed up she recommends the trail between Toblach and Cortina that runs beside the icy River Rienz through wintery pine forests; for recharging the batteries she suggests the double trail from Gemärk that runs through the entire Höhlenstein Valley, past the Toblach Lake, the military cemetery, and to the Dürrensee Lake, with views of the Three Peaks en route. Truly “remärkable”!

Solar energy

The peaceful path that leads to the Chapel of St. Peter am Kofel is a delight for all those who find snow the ideal accompaniment to meditation. Built on the site of a much older place of worship, the chapel is lit by the sun, while a small south-facing bench is ideal for sitting in silence as your surroundings gleam around you.

Once upon a time in the forest...

Hiking through the white-clad spruce forests, setting crystal snowflakes dancing in the sunbeams, reading the animal tracks: it is all like something from a fairy tale. Climb up to the Silvesteralm Hut, a place to enjoy hearty fare or tasty treats throughout the year; or make a wish as you walk round the Toblach Lake, whose aura of winter tranquillity brings peace of mind and cools the fevered brow.

Busy bees and the healing power of honey

Winter here is also a time for slowing down, not just skiing down. The Eden spa world offers deep, deep relaxation with a honey massage: Frida Oberhammer, a beekeeper herself and also a skilled reiki practitioner, knows all about the healing power of bee products - from honey liqueur to the beeswax cloth applied to the chest. Her honey back massage is meanwhile truly a mini-ceremony of its own!

For more tips, best ask your host Hubert Oberhammer. His enthusiasm will win over even the staunchest of snow-dodgers!
